Instructions
In a large pot, heat the butter and olive oil over medium heat. Add the onion, celery, and carrot. Sauté until softened.
Add the garlic and tomato paste. Cook for 2 minutes, stirring frequently.
Stir in the flour and cook for another minute.
Add the broth and bring to a simmer. Cook for 15 minutes.
Add the shrimp, crab meat, heavy cream, Old Bay seasoning, paprika, and bay leaf. Simmer for another 10 minutes.
Season with salt and pepper to taste. Remove the bay leaf before serving.
Serve hot, garnished with parsley or chives and lemon wedges, if desired.
Notes
You can use canned or imitation crab if fresh crab is not available.
