Ingredients
  

For the Apple Fritter Waffle Donuts

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
  • 2 large eggs
  • cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup packed light brown sugar
  • ¾ cup buttermilk (or milk + 1 tablespoon vinegar)
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • cups peeled, diced tart apple (like Granny Smith)
  • Optional ¼ chopped pecans or walnuts

For the Vanilla Glaze

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2–3 tablespoons milk
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

For Dusting

Instructions
 

  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  • In another bowl, beat the eggs, then mix in the granulated sugar, brown sugar, buttermilk, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Add the diced apples and nuts if using.
  • Combine the wet ingredients with the dry ingredients until just mixed.
  • Preheat your waffle maker. Pour the batter into the waffle maker and cook until golden brown. Repeat with remaining batter.
  • For the glaze, mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Drizzle over the warm donuts.
  • Dust with extra powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

These donuts are best served warm. You can add your favorite nuts or spices for extra flavor.
